Our News

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I played a board game at a board game café (which is a rare find here; I was looking for one, and there is only one in my city). I have not played them yet, but badminton, football (the non-American kind), volleyball and basketball are really popular with my students and others. Mobile games are also quite popular, including Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile.

Sundays are also known as “Car Free” days, on which most people do not drive cars in order to hypothetically reduce air pollution. Since that is most people’s day off and the roads are clear, it is common for people to have marathons and other outdoor events on those days. I got to go cycling to the ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple in a village that was a ways away from my city, which was really cool.

Other news from this week:

I also got to go to a children’s traditional dance festival/competition. I enjoyed watching the different performances and styles of dancing, as well as listening to the music that was played.

My school celebrated National Batik Day and Indonesian Language Month this week, by having a two-day festival instead of classes. (Batik is a traditional kind of cloth, which is painted using natural dyes and wax.) There was a beauty pageant the first day (with all of the contestants wearing different kinds of batik), as well as many games. It was like a fair. The second day I got to judge a singing competition, which was cool.
