A bottle of water costs between 3 and 5 cedis, which is around 27 to 45 cents in US money. You can buy bottles of water at the market, but most people, including me, drink water from plastic bags called “sachets.” They’re small, easy to carry, and you can buy 30 sachets for 8 cedis, or even two for just 1 cedi at the market. I buy a bag of 30 sachets about twice a week and drink them at home.
Jollof rice with chicken! This is one of my favorite meals. It’s bright orange and full of flavor, kind of like the rice you’d get at a Mexican restaurant, but it’s a little spicy and super tasty.
I have been bopping to the new Taylor Swift album but also a lot of AfroBeats music. AfroBeats is a type of music that is catchy and full of energy. It’s usually fast with a lot of drums and fun melodies that make you want to clap, dance and get on your feet.
King Paluta is a very famous Ghanaian musician. His song “Makoma” is almost always on repeat in the village. It’s about love and happiness. I heard it A LOT this week!
I harvested a big bowl of bright red, super spicy chili peppers from my school garden! I used some of the peppers to make a spicy, flavorful tomato soup and am selling the rest so we can buy new seeds for the next planting season.
