To help with my Spanish learning, I listen almost exclusively to Spanish music. Listening to reggaeton or corridos, which are popular Spanish music genres. However, here in Guatemala, many adults listen to marimba, which is a key part of Guatemalan heritage and culture. You'll hear marimba in many different parts of Guatemalan life.
This week is Semana Santa, so before all the kids have their break from school, my library had a pool day. So I assisted with setting up 6 different pools with different water activities with the youth leaders. I got super drenched playing with the kids and the youth leaders, and then realized I forgot to bring an extra shirt to change into. It was a great day regardless, and for refa we had tostadas con frijoles volteados and granizadas to celebrate summer. Do you guys remember what those foods are?
This week, I've been reading a lot of political science journals related to current worldwide events. I'm technically in the middle of getting my Master's degree in International Affairs and Leadership, but I'm taking a break as I do my Peace Corps service. As a result, I like to keep up to date, so I can have an easy transition back to school. It's also online, so when I feel comfortable with my Spanish, I may resume taking classes.
