In Boyacá, everyone speaks Spanish. Some people, like our tour guide, even speak the ancient Muisca language!
As is the case in all of Colombia, in Boyacá, people use Colombian pesos.
A bottle of water cost about the same amount in Boyacá as in Bogotá. Thankfully, we were able to drink the tap water, and just refilled our canteens!
The best meal of the week was by far La trucha con frutas del mar, or trout with "fruit of the ocean." The dish was kind of like a trout stew, with shrimp, calamari, clams, and other types of fish added to the thick broth. Trout is a type of fish that is natural to el Lago de Tota, a large lake that is in the center of Boyacá. For that reason, we had to try some! Boy, was it fresh! On the side, it came with patacón, or a fried plantain in the shape of a pancake.
