A small bottle of water costs about two Yuan or about 30 cents in American dollars, and a large bottle can go up to about ten Yuan, or $1.50. I've been purchasing huge bottles of water because of the change in weather. It's very important to keep hydrated, especially when the weather gets warmer. Sometimes I treat myself to cold milk tea or fresh pressed juice, which ranges anywhere from six Yuan to 15 Yuan, or $1-$2.30. My favorite juice is frozen watermelon juice. It's so refreshing on a hot day.
The best meal I've had this week was an authentic Cantonese style roast pork dish with rice. It really reminded me of the food I used to eat in Chinatown in New York City. It's quite simple to make, actually. Rice is cooked in a stone pot, so the bottom gets nice and crisp and then the rice is usually topped with meat, vegetables, and an egg.
I've been listening to a lot of Chinese music, even though I don't understand most of it. Chinese pop music generally has very romantic melodies which helps me relax and helps when I study. My favorite song is called "wo hao xiang ni," which means "I miss you a lot." My roommates and I try to sing it, but we just sound like cats crying.
