This week was unusually rainy for Granada. The city is famous for its year-round sun which contributes to the friendly, open and fun culture of Andalucia, the region in Spain where Granada resides. However, while this city is incredibly beautiful, the droughts affect a lot of day-to-day living. You must be incredibly conscious about your water conservation—for instance, showers should only be three minutes, so you must lather yourself while the water is turned off and rinse quickly. Sometimes, during the summers, when the city is experiencing a particularly extreme drought, they will shut off the water in people’s homes during the day!
With the amount of rain we had this week, such weather is a celebrated event! The city needs this water, but the downpour was incredible. While I was in my language school classes, thunderstorms were rumbling and the streets filled quickly with massive puddles. Broken umbrellas were scattered in nearly every other trash can, as the wind had gusted them inside out until they snapped! For the entire week, Granada was covered in a blanket of grey.
