In a country where most days are filled with clouds and rain, what does one do for fun, to see friends and family? Go to a pub of course! Pubs in Britain are extremely popular, not only for their warm and inviting environments, which offer a refuge from the famed dreary climate but also for their renowned comfort food.
The food I sampled is a British staple - fish and chips! Not to be confused with fish and potato chips, this dish pairs fish with french fries, which are known as chips in the U.K. (conversely, potato chips are known "crisps"). While almost any fish can be used when cooking fish and chips, cod is most often served as it is both common and easy to debone.
When I tried the dish, I instantly felt warm and at home. These were comforting sensations for a traveler like myself on a cold and rainy U.K. evening. Afterward, when I left feeling full and happy, I felt like I could take on the world!
