Emily and I went to two cities while we were in Spain; Madrid, which is very central and Spain’s capital city, and Barcelona, which is much closer to the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Because Barcelona is closer to the sea, it is very well known for its seafood dishes.
We tried one of Spain’s most famous dishes – paella (pronounced pie-ay-ah). There are many different types of paella, but I had paella de verduras (vegetable paella), and Emily had paella de camarones y chorizo (shrimp and chorizo paella–chorizo is a type of Spanish sausage). I chose the paella de verduras because I am a vegetarian. We both thought our paella was delicious!
We felt great when eating our paella! We had just fished a long day of hiking and sightseeing at Park Güell, one of Barcelona’s most famous public parks. As much as we loved Park Güell and its colorful tile artwork, we were really hungry–our food could not come soon enough! When it finally came, it was served hot in iron skillets. It tasted fresh, rich, and spicy–I would definitely recommend giving it a try!
