Danza Davis is a scientific illustrator who works remotely for the studio Ink Dwell and on-site in her rural community of northern California. With a keen eye for scientific accuracy, Danza works hard to capture the preciousness of nature in her work. Originally trained in botany and studio art, she balances traditional and digital art to achieve this.

What is your name? Danza Davis.

What is your hometown?
I grew up in Northern California amongst oak woodland and conifer-dominated habitats with easy access to redwoods and coastal communities. I had a unique childhood in a remote community without access to public utilities, where people had to come up with their own solutions for making power and accessing water. Though there were challenges in living this way, it meant that I spent countless hours outdoors and fell in love with observing the beauty of plants, animals and landscapes. I started drawing at a young age, and my work has always been inspired by this early appreciation of the natural world. I later transferred my drawing skills to painting and making art on a computer.
