Have you always wanted to work as an industry research scientist? Can you tell us about your journey to this career path?
I went to graduate school foriImmunology because I loved the subject and wanted to learn as much as possible about it. I didn’t know at the time what I wanted to do afterward, but I was fairly certain that academia wasn’t for me. I learned the most about a job in industry and what that would entail while interviewing for jobs. I liked the clinical translational aspect of industry and enjoyed the pace, organization and shared motivation of helping patients. There are also several measures of success in industry where single experiments are huge wins, which I find really gratifying. Additionally, if something is not working in industry, it is eliminated. You don’t continue to try to “get it to work” with brute force and wasted experiments/money, which I appreciate.
