Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken here is Spanish, although many people here also happen to know English. The signs here are all usually in Spanish. Many stores and restaurants will play music in English.

What type of money is used here?:

The money used here is Costa Rican colones. Five hundred colones is equal to about a dollar in the U.S. They use very pretty plastic bills that have animals and people on them. My favorite bill is the blue one with sharks. The bill in my picture is 2000 Costa Rican colones which equals about four American dollars.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water would typically cost around 500 Costa Rican colones which is equal to about a dollar in the U.S. I've noticed that American brands, especially sodas tend to cost significantly more in Costa Rica than in the U.S. This has inspired me to try new drinks that I haven't seen/tried before which I ended up loving. For example, there is this yogurt drink that is very filling and delicious that was only about 1000 Costa Rican colones or about two American dollars.

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal this week was the pizza that I got at a restaurant with my host mom on Sunday night! It was so delicious and a great time to bond before I leave back to the U.S.
