The main language is English. However, Scottish Gaelic is also spoken. Gaelic is not as common as it once was. However, street signs in Scotland are written in Gaelic and in English. There is also a Gaelic university on the Isle of Skye that seeks to preserve the language and the culture it is associated with.
Scotland is part of the U.K. and as such, uses the Pound Stirling. However, some of the bills have imagery relating to Scotland such as fish and New Lanark.
A bottle of water costs the same as in Exeter. Depending on the brand, a bottle of water could range from about 70p to 2 quid.
The best meal I had this week was haggis nachos at The White Hart Inn in Edinburgh. Haggis is a pudding normally made of various sheep organs along with oatmeal, onions and spices. This may sound unappetizing compared to the cuisine in America, but it is actually really good, especially when joined with cheese, chips, cream and jalapenos to form nachos.
