Eurasian Magpies- Ubiquitous, Intelligent and Bad Omens?

They are opportunistic eaters, so they may eat insects, carrion, vegetables or other birds. Their varied diets allow them to live in many environments.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Eurasian magpie populations have been increasing over the years, so they are not a species under concern. They are most susceptible to harm as eggs and young birds because they are more vulnerable to predators until they learn how to fly. Some people worry that magpies can cause songbird populations to decrease by eating their eggs and young, but studies have shown that magpies do not have a profound negative effect on other bird species. There are also many suspicions concerning magpies. Some people believe that seeing a solo magpie is bad luck, so it is good to tip your hat, wave or even salute to them to show respect. There are also numerous stories of magpies stealing shiny things, but even though they are curious, studies show they do not specifically steal shiny items.
