Eurasian Magpies- Ubiquitous, Intelligent and Bad Omens?

Introduction:

Magpies are common in the U.K., but there are many suspicions and sometimes dislike surrounding them. However, they are beautiful, and I enjoy seeing them around campus and outside my window.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Magpies are small to medium-sized birds with a wingspan of about 20 inches. They are black and white, but often their black feathers appear to have a green or purple tint.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was excited when I first saw one. I love birds, especially corvids, but magpies are not a species present where I am from. I think that they are interesting animals because of how smart they are. Some scientists believe that they are as intelligent as chimpanzees. Magpies are one of the few animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors. They have also been shown using tools and counting while in captivity. They truly are fascinating animals.

Where does it live?:

Eurasian magpies have a huge range. They can be found over much of Europe and Asia. They often live in open areas that have a low number of trees, as well as in parks and cities.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Magpies use trees in their habitats to build large, domed nests for their eggs.
