A Day in Sumin's Life

Introduction:

South Korea is currently enforcing level 4 Covid restrictions. This makes it difficult for me to interact with local communities and schools. Thankfully, a friend of mine that lives in Seoul has children. I was able to sit down and talk with her daughter, Sumin. She is also are allowing me to use some of their family photos!

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Like most places, meals are not the same everyday. For breakfast, she usually eats a bowl of rice with grilled fish. This may seem odd for breakfast but is rather common in South Korea. Sumin's mom always packs her lunch during the school year. Sumin loves her mom's sandwiches and could not pick a favorite. For dinner she mostly eats a bowl of rice and a bowl of soup.

What is your house like?:

Like many kids in Seoul, Sumin and her family live in an apartment. Her apartment had 3 rooms and is on the 49th floor! Apartments here are much smaller than in the states due to limited space. South Korea is a much smaller than most US states.

What chores do you have at home?:

Sumin said very happily that she does not have many chores. She just has to clean her room and take trash out. Sometimes she has more chores.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Sumin's mom is an art professor and her dad is a business man.
