I feel so lucky for the beautiful clear skies every morning that allow me to see these beauties.
Up in the mountains, the skies go from clear to purely white and opaque so quickly. The clouds move insanely fast when they decide to move in, and at that point, nothing can be seen. A helicopter pilot taught me a bit about reading the clouds. He pointed up at the high, fast-moving clouds and called them rotor clouds because they spun in circles causing lots of turbulence and a rough appearance. He estimated they moved at around 50 knots, or about 58 miles per hour. For a bit of context, he said his helicopter should not fly above 75 knots, and it’s illegal for airplanes to land at the Tenzing-Hillary airport if the wind moves faster than 10 knots.
