Our News

I read about the ever-increasing number of helicopters flying around the Everest region during the tourist season, and how they're starting to disturb both people and animals with their noise.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

In my hotel at Cafe Danphe in Namche Bazaar, there’s a little metal ring strung to the wall and a hook on a nearby post. Standing in certain different places marked by grains in the wood that everyone knows, the hoop needs to swing around and land on the hook. My friends obviously have way too much free time, because they’re so perfect at it every time, but I finally got it from two of the spots!

Other news from this week:

The Syangboche airport happens to be the highest airport in the world, but it’s unfinished because the people in Namche don’t want it to be commercialized. It’s also too high in altitude for most fixed-wing airplanes to safely fly and land. While walking down the rocky gravel runway, we came across streams of ice and piles of building materials near the beginning of the strip.
