The rice, marigolds, irises and other flowers grow all over Nepal. For flowers, marigolds grow in the greatest abundance. People string together large marigold necklaces to greet cherished guests and offer them to the gods during all pujas conducted throughout the year for festivals and for daily prayers.
During this time, everyone takes holiday. That means everyone in mass leaves the big cities to return home to their smaller villages to be with family. It’s nearly impossible find space on any bus during this time. Traffic jams reach an all time high, even though for several days the government limits which vehicles can be driven, based on if their license plate is even or odd.
