In their free time, Thai people enjoy hanging with friends, going to the mall and getting food. It is very uncommon for Thai people to sit in the house for long periods of their free time. In addition to taking trips to the mall, many people enjoy visits to the cinema and treks in the countryside in the forest.
Thai people speak Thai in most cases unless they are from a hill tribe, in which case they speak their natural dialect, which may be completely different from that of Thai. To say "hello", you say "sawasdee krab" to boys and "sawasdee ka" to girls.
All of my Thai friends that I interviewed have had pets, ranging from seven cats to two dogs to two African parrots. It seems that Thai people have a strong love for animals and more than often have family pets.
Many of my friends from rural communities travel much less and had their first major experience with traveling when they left home to go to college. On the other hand, my friends who are from the city have had the opportunity to travel and have gone to places such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, China and even America.
Most people in rural environments work on farms, specializing in rice, corn, sugar cane or cattle. These areas have relied on agricultural work for generations. On the other end, within city environments, people have a wide range of jobs, such as factory workers, bankers, government officials, or other office work.
