Road Trip!

It was dark and rainy, and the single lane roads were flooding with small waterfalls coming from every direction. It was a very tricky road to travel!

The next morning we set out towards the southern coast of Ireland. Our first stop was a placed called Cobh. One interesting thing about Cobh is that it's the last place the Titanic ship was seen before it hit the iceberg and sank to the bottom of the ocean. The ship stopped in Cobh to pick up more passengers heading to America. After leaving there, we made our way to Hook Island. There is a lighthouse on the island called Hook Lighthouse, and it is the oldest operational lighthouse in the whole world. It is over 800 years old and still used today as a navigational guide for ships.

Sunday was our last day of travel. After all, we had to be back in time for our school classes on Monday morning. We took off towards the Wicklow Mountains. Wicklow National Park covers 20,483 hectares, which is 79 square miles. The highest peak is 925 meters high, which is 3,035 feet. There are mountains in Greeneville, Tennessee as well. Do you know how high those are?

In case you haven't noticed, the measuring system in Ireland is very different than that in the U.S. Ireland uses a metric system, whereas the United States uses customary units, also known as Imperial units.

After driving through the mountain passes, we made our way to Ireland's largest waterfall. The Powerscourt Waterfall is 121 meters high. Do you think you can figure out how many feet that is? I'll give you a clue: one meter is equal to 3.3 feet. We were blessed with sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday, so I was able to get some amazing pictures to show you.
