To better understand how water is shared within the community, I talked with other Peace Corps volunteers, workers in my town, and even the person who is in charge of all the water in my town! I learned that a lot more goes into making clean water than I thought.
I learned more about how and where my community gets its water! I also learned how the water gets cleaned so that it is safe to drink! The community plays a big part in the water system because some of the water systems are in people's homes!
Everyone needs water, and the communities in Peru are no different than the communities in Chico! Clean water is used in our everyday lives, from hydrating us to washing the dishes to being used for laundry. One big difference is that many people in Peru have gardens at home. They use the water to water the plants that they have in their houses and gardens.
Yes, this need is being met by the municipality workers, Peace Corps volunteers, and members of the community!
The water systems have to be cleaned by the municipality workers. This means that they hike 1-3 hours to scrub all of the nasty stuff out of the water!
