There are many special things about Taiwan that seem so different from my hometown in San Antonio, Texas, but some of those specialties and very delicious! There's no experience like walking through a night market (夜市 - Yèshì) and exploring many of the diverse and delicious traditional dishes!
I tried a traditional dessert called 湯圓(Tāngyuán) on a very cold night!
湯圓 Tāngyuán is a dessert with many different styles of eating and preparing, but eating hotTāngyuán on a cold night feels like a warm hug filled with sweetness.
The cool thing about 湯圓 Tāngyuán is that there are many different styles and ways to eat it. However, you'll find that many versions consist of sweet, glutinous rice balls that are served in a hot syrup, broth or hot Taiwanese traditional fermented rice wine (酒 - Jiǔ). The rice balls can also come with different types of filling, two popular choices being peanut and black sesame!
