Exploring Taiwan's Interconnectedness - the MRT and Beyond!

Introduction:

Although Taiwan has lots of different types of landscapes and features, from high rocky mountains and forests to sandy beaches, it is still a small island if you come from the United States! To put it in perspective, Taiwan is only a little bit bigger than the state of Maryland, which is one of the reasons why people have been able to develop all sorts of interesting ways to connect to each other around the island!

How do people get around?:

If you come to Taiwan and explore the Taipei area, you'll notice that many people carry around a little card -- sometimes it's on the backs of their phones or in their wallets or pockets. This card is extremely useful for getting around on the buses, underground metros or even some boats and gondolas! You can also use the card, called 悠遊卡 Yōuyóu kǎ or EasyCard, outside of Taipei at the metro stations in Kaohsiung or on the local trains to different cities. It's also easy to reload it or buy a new card if it gets lost or damaged. You can go to any subway station and find a 悠遊卡 Yōuyóu kǎ vending/reload machine. In addition, you can also reload at most convenience stores in Taiwan such as FamilyMart 全家 or 7/11!
