In Peru, we use the sol. In Spanish, sol means sun.
A bottle of water usually costs 1 sol, which is equivalent to about 30 cents ($0.30 USD).
The best meal this week was ceviche. I usually go to the local market in the nearby town to get a plate of rice with ceviche. It costs 10 soles, which is just about $3.00 USD. It is very filling!
I listened to a lot of Peruvian cumbia. Cumbia is a type of music that originated in Colombia. It blends African, indigenous and Spanish colonial influences! It’s very upbeat and tends to have a lot of drums. Cumbia is very popular across all of Latin America, including Peru. My favorite type of cumbia is called “Cumbia Amazónica.” Born in the Amazon rainforest, it’s famous for its use of electric guitars to create a “psychedelic vibe.”
