Overcoming the Obstacles of Public Transportation Abroad

Introduction:

As an environmental studies student, I am so glad that Costa Rica has a vast and affordable public transportation system. Not only does it provide a convenient way for people to get around, but it is also very sustainable and good for the environment. Nevertheless, while I have enjoyed using the public transportation system in Costa Rica, it has also been a challenge. In my hometown of Pittsburgh, I never really had the opportunity to navigate the city by just taking the buses, so this is my first time figuring out the bus routes of a whole new city. Through this experience, I am learning to overcome obstacles and expand my adventures! One of the main things I have learned is that getting lost is something that is going to happen while traveling, and you have to learn to make the best of it!

How do people get around?:

The best way of getting around Costa Rica is by using the public transportation system. For just a few colones (Costa Rican currency), one can travel around town, coast to coast, and everything in between! In the city, there are bus stops everywhere going from one place to another. However, if you are not a local accustomed to Costa Rican travel, things can get pretty confusing!
