Aside from the recycling bins and reusable materials, the household trash disposal system in Taiwan also encourages community engagement in waste management. Every evening, the "trash truck" drives down the streets playing classical music (Beethoven's Fur Elise, to be specific). When people hear it, they come out of their apartments to take their trash and recycling to the truck and stop to talk to their neighbors. Not only does this fulfill the need for good waste management systems, but it has turned recycling into a fun, social community event.
