English is the main language spoken by everyone at the university here. All the teachers speak English to teach classes and usually students speak English with one another. However, you can always hear students speaking in other languages to their friends. Because the National University of Singapore is very diverse, there are many languages spoken by different students!
Singaporean dollars are the currency here, but a lot of locals use an app on their phones called "Pay Lah" that lets them scan a code outside of food stalls and pay through the app. This is to encourage Singaporeans to go cashless, which makes payments faster and easier for everyone.
I actually just found a food stall that sells water bottles for only one Singapore dollar, which is $0.75!
The best meal I had this week was a piece of chocolate cake I ordered at an English restaurant on campus. On Saturdays, they have a special deal on cakes, so I was able to order a slice! This was especially good because cake (and chocolate) is usually very expensive or hard to come by in Singapore.
