As I stepped off the airplane after landing in Seoul, one of the first things that I had to figure out was how to get to the University dorms, and the best way was to acquire a transportation card, mainly known as a T-money card. When asking for directions, it is important to know how to say the University of Seoul in Korean because if you say it to people in English, then they would almost always send you to a different University since they have similar names in English. The easiest way to pronounce my University's name is Seoul-si-rip-day-hak-yo. Try saying that three times!
My advice to you: always study the transportation system in the area you are traveling to. Before coming to Korea, I binged watched many videos on traveling in Korea and figured out how to read maps, just in case the GPS function on Google Maps or Wi-Fi would not be available to me. This saved my life during my first week abroad since I didn't have a Korean sim card for my phone yet. For transportation in Korea, in general, walking, taking the public bus and using the subway are the main modes of getting around.
