Mandarin, or 普通话 (Putonghua) is the main language of China. However, pretty much every area in China has its own dialect. In Wuhan, you may also hear people speaking 武汉话 (Wuhanhua).
Here, we use the Chinese Renminbi (RMB), which can also be referred to as Chinese yen. The measurement of money here is 快 (kuai) or 元 (yuan).
A 500-milliliter bottle of water costs about two 块, but some stores will only sell their own brand of water and jack up the prices. For example, Watsons, China’s version of a Walgreens, only sells their own brand of water: a 400mL bottle for 2.5块. Stores are able to do this because, in China, you have to buy bottled water as the tap water isn’t suitable to drink.
My two friends, Tanila and Polly, took me to eat at one of their favorite restaurants. What kind of restaurant was it, you ask? Was it a Chinese restaurant? Surprisingly, no. Tanila and Polly actually took me to a Russian restaurant. Yes, you read that right. A Russian restaurant in China.
This particular restaurant, which is called 俄式厨房 (e shi chufang), or The Russian Style Kitchen, is very popular and there is always a wait for dinner.
