Bulgaria is located in an ideal location in the Balkans. The country shares a border with five others, including Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece and Romania. Since the countries are all so close, it means that the different foods from the cultures have crossed borders. In Bulgaria, the bordering countries have influenced Bulgarian traditional food.
Moving to Bulgaria meant that I would have to try new foods, and for the most part, I like the new tastes and flavors. I like to cook and make most of my meals at home, but when I go out, I am never disappointed. There are many restaurants to eat at but most Bulgarians do not go out for dinner. In Bulgaria, people take pride in their cooking and many people make their own food at home. When they do not sit down for a meal, most people grab small snacks and sandwiches to eat as they walk. There are numerous street vendors who sell food from small shops on the side of the street. The street food is usually grilled meat and bread, so I typically do not eat it very often. Instead, I like trying to make my own recipes and Bulgarian dishes.
