Bulgarian High School Through Dara's Eyes

Introduction:

Божидара (Bozhidara pronounced Bo-zi-dar-a) is one of the 10th-grade students that I teach at Yordan Radichkov High School. Many Bulgarians go by nicknames and Bozhidara prefers to be called Dara. She is sixteen years old and this is her third year in high school. In Bulgaria, students are in high school for five years. I have gotten to know Dara through class and also by hanging out, eating brownies, and watching movies together.

Dara is such a sweet person and I was happy that she agreed to be interviewed. This is what she had to say about her high school experience, her life in Bulgaria and her favorite things!

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, I eat scrambled eggs. For lunch, I have potatoes and meat. Although pork is popular in Bulgaria, I mostly eat chicken breast for lunch. For dinner, I usually eat lots of vegetables. I like to eat them plain and my favorites are tomatoes and carrots.

What is your house like?:

I do not live in a house. Like many Bulgarians, I live in an apartment and it has five rooms. My family lives on the second floor of the building.

What chores do you have at home?:

I have to vacuum and wash the dishes at home. My mom and I switch who has to do the chores based on our schedules.
