This week I celebrated my birthday for the first time without my family. It was strange, but my students surprised me with cards and singing, and that made me feel at home. They sang the Bulgarian version of Happy Birthday, which is something I have never heard before, so that was cool. In Bulgaria, it is tradition for the person who is celebrating their birthday to bring chocolate candy for their friends, and, as a teacher, it is tradition to bring chocolate for the other teachers and your students. I made brownies, cinnamon rolls, lemon coconut bars and chocolate candy for my school. In return for providing treats, the people who eat your treats must give you a birthday blessing. I truly felt very blessed this year!
