Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled about 200 km, or 125 miles to get from my apartment in Yunlin County to Taipei City!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I've been living in Taiwan for almost 9 months now and taken trains, buses, cars, scooters, boats, bikes, and walked all over the island. If I had to guess, I would say I've traveled at least 2,500 miles on my journey here so far!

How did I get around this week?:

To get to Taipei from where I live in Yunlin, I rode the high speed rail (HSR), a train that travels as fast as 185 miles per hour! Once I arrived in Taipei, I mainly took the MRT, or Taipei Metro, which is an underground train system like the subway in New York. It runs to major destinations all around the city, so it's very convenient to get around Taipei. To get to places that weren't close to the MRT, I sometimes rode a public bus or called a taxi. When I couldn't take the MRT or ride a bus, I walked to my destination or borrowed a YouBike from one of the many stations around the city. You can use an app to rent a bike for about 10 NTD and then return it at a different location later.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was Taipei 101, which is Taiwan's tallest building at over 1,660 feet tall!
