Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled very far this week. I returned home from Cape Town, and to get back home I had to take an 80-minute flight from Cape Town to Bloemfontein, a 90-minute taxi from Bloemfontein to the South African/Lesotho border, and then another 60-minute taxi from the border to my village. Travelling here is long and complicated if you don't have access to a personal vehicle.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

There is still so much that I hope to see in South Africa and Lesotho before my departure at the end of next year. Usually, when I travel, I take public taxis, but if the journey is far then I will take a plane. The airport in Lesotho only has flights to and from Johannesburg. The South African city nearest to us is called Bloemfontein, and it has a small airport with flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. There are also several reputable bus lines, such as Baz Bus and Intercape that can bring you around South Africa. The road conditions in South Africa are much better than in Lesotho. Travel times in Lesotho are often delayed because of how slow the drivers need to drive to avoid potholes and bumpy roads.

How did I get around this week?:

In Lesotho, I take taxis to get between my village and my banking town.
