Next week, I will be travelling to Quito, which is an 8-10 hour bus ride from Cuenca. I usually take the overnight bus that leaves around 9pm and gets into Quito at 5am. I am usually able to sleep the entire time, although the roads get curvy, and it can also get very cold!
Since Ecuador is such a small country, it's fairy easy to travel all around. I've been to several different provinces and seen lots of different things. For instance, I went whale watching off the coast in July, which was an 8 hour overnight bus ride away. I also went to visit my friend in a town called Baeza -- to get there, I took a 9 hour overnight bus to Quito and then another 3 hour bus to her town. That was a long trip!
I walked mostly everywhere this week. Cuenca is the perfect size for me because you can walk pretty much anywhere! If where you are going is super far, I take the bus, which costs 30 cents per ride. If it's late at night or I'm in a big rush, I will take a taxi which is generally under $3.
