I remained in Cork this week entirely, thus altogether, likely only traveled 15-20 miles, when factoring in a mile from campus to home every day, and then walking around Cork City. It is an a little over an hour walk from city center to my apartment, and 50 minute walk to campus, but I often take the bus in the mornings.
I am currently 3,752 miles from Kentucky, but between trips back and forth from Cork to Dublin to Galway to Cork, at least 6,000 miles currently.
This week I got around by walking or by taking the bus.
The most interesting place I visited this week was Saint Fin Barres cathedral, which is a massive and gorgeous gothic style cathedral in Cork City. Gothic architecture is easy to spot, because of the ornate pointed-arched stained glass windows, gargoyles, and intricate stone work. Saint Fin Barres boasts a massive organ and hosts recitals on every friday in August. Saint Fin Barres Cathedral is named from St. Finbarr, a legendary figure and patron saint of Cork. 'Where Finbarr taught, let Munster learn,' is the motto of Universtity College Cork.
