How far did I travel this week?:

The furthest I traveled this week was about 50 kilometers (31 miles) to Lloret de Mar. In Catalan, Lloret means a place where laurel trees grow, and mar means sea. So, directly translated, Lloret de Mar means “laurels of the sea.”

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

So far, while I’ve been in Spain, I’ve had many opportunities to visit different places. In addition to Girona, I’ve been to Alicante in the south and to Barcelona, which is about a 40-minute train ride away. On my trip to Prague, I also visited Vienna, Austria, and Budapest, Hungary. Both cities were beautiful and decorated with Christmas lights and markets filled with delicious warm food. My favorite food I’ve tried in all of Europe was chicken paprikash in Budapest. We waited outside for 40 minutes, and the soup was served in a steaming bread bowl, which made the wait completely worth it!

How did I get around this week?:

Europe is known for its public transportation system. Most people here in Spain get around by train or by very prompt buses. While Girona does have buses, I usually end up walking everywhere. I typically walk to and from work, which adds up to about five kilometers (three miles) total each day.
