The village homes were nothing more than basic shelters to protect their inhabitants from the wind and the rain. Their healthcare system consisted of one doctor for every 300 people; this physician only visited the village once a week. This place in Morocco certainly put my life into perspective!
On my last day in Morocco, I crossed the Moroccan-Spanish border into Ceuta, Spain. This town is a Spanish enclave (or part) situated on the Mediterranean coast and surrounded on three sides by Moroccan territory. When I crossed into the town of Ceuta, I realized the power and freedom that comes with my U.S. Passport because I had to say goodbye to my Moroccan translator who could not cross with me since she did not have a Spanish visa. It was only a matter of a few feet but, for my translator and for many other Moroccans, this short distance was the difference between achieving or not achieving their dream of being free to travel wherever they would like.
