Travel News

My town is the perfect size to walk from place to place without needing a car or public transportation, like a bus or train. I only have to walk 5 minutes from where I live to get to school each day, and it only takes me about 25 minutes to walk to the main square of the city, known as the Plaza Mayor in Spanish. Here I can see the town hall and a museum. I can sit at a restaurant to enjoy these historic sites and buildings, eat some tasty food and occasionally hear a talented musician playing in the square.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

In Lugo, I got to walk along the giant wall known as the Muralla Romana de Lugo, which forms a big circle around the old part of the city. I learned that the wall was built by the people of Rome about 1,700 years ago, so it's incredibly old! It is the only Roman city wall that completely goes around the town in one unbroken circle. I walked over a mile on top of the wall, and it took me about 30 minutes before I finished the whole loop. The wall is about the height of a three-to-four-story house. There are many watchtowers shaped like half-circles popping out from the wall where Roman soldiers used to stand watch to keep the town safe from unwanted visitors long ago. It was enormous and so cool!

Other Travel News from this week:

I have also recently visited another nearby town called A Guarda, Spain to spend the weekend with some friends. We all went on a hike together to the top of the mountain where we could see a beautiful view of the town. We also saw Portugal in the distance since A Guarda is located where the Miño River (the largest river in Galicia) flows into the Atlantic Ocean and separates Spain from Portugal.
