Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I traveled 207 miles from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur. All it took was a one-hour flight! In Malaysia, distances are typically listed using the metric system. This means that instead of miles as a unit for distance, distances are measured in kilometers. One mile is equal to 1.61 kilometers, so this past week I traveled 333.13 kilometers. Can you figure out how far your house is from your school in miles and in kilometers?

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have traveled 9,172 miles (or 14,760.9 kilometers!) from Rhode Island to Kuala Terengganu.

How did I get around this week?:

I traveled by bike, taxi, plane, escalator, elevator--but no train. This week I took many forms of transit I don’t typically use in Kuala Terengganu to reach Kuala Lumpur. My journey began with a taxi ride to the airport, a flight to the city and a second taxi ride to my hotel. In Kuala Lumpur, most people maneuver around the city by foot, car or motorbike. Recently, a rapid transit system was built in the city. More people are using this new public transport, but most continue to use personal motorized vehicles.

When in Kuala Terengganu, I typically ride my bike along the shaded walkways to the office at the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
