This week I traveled 48.2 miles from Dresden to Rathen, which is a village at the foot of the sandstone mountains in the Sächsische Schweiz National Park. I also traveled 18.7 miles from Dresden to Meißen.
I have traveled approximately 7,000 miles so far.
This week I walked, and rode the trams and S-Bahn. I also took a ferry to cross the Elbe River in order to get into the Sächsische Schweiz National Park.
I really enjoyed visiting the Albrechtsburg castle in Meißen because the walls inside the castle were all elaborately painted with scenes from royal life during the middle ages, religious scenes and intricate floral designs. I also had the opportunity to see some restoration staff cleaning and performing conservation work on the wall paintings. It was fascinating to watch them perform such detailed work! Albrechtsburg was the first castle I've visited in Germany, and now I hope to visit more during my time here.
