There are so many different traditions in Taiwan that would be very special to talk about. We have many holidays and celebrations here that we would not celebrate in the U.S. One of these many celebrations is very special to each school, though. And because this tradition is coming up very soon for our school, I'd love to introduce it to you today!
I learned about Sports Day and School Anniversary celebrations! In each school around Taipei, the schools each hold their own Sports Day, which is a very exciting event for every school. On Sports Day, we prepare all kinds of dances, games and competitions for the students to do. Some include running races, big class dances, relay races and even tug-of-war! It's a very big deal here.
I also learned about School Anniversaries and Birthdays. In Taiwan, many schools celebrate the day their school started! For these celebrations, many schools have different ceremonies that students participate in, including songs, dances, and many other things. This year is our school's 24th birthday. For both of these events, students have their parents come watch.
Some schools have their Sports Day and School Anniversary celebrations on different days. But guess what? Ours are on the same day!
