The kids here are very friendly to foreigners. I always hear Malae! (Means, "Foreigner")! They love to practice their English with me by saying, "Give me money." (See, the kids already have an entrepreneurial mindset..!) Besides being aspiring entrepreneurs, the kids love to hang out with their friends and play soccer.
For breakfast Timorese people eat bread with or without butter, rice porridge or donuts. For lunch and dinner they eat rice with a protein and vegetables.
My house is very spacious compared to the average Timor-Leste home, due to the fact that my host family includes a veteran of the War of Indepence. Here in Timor the best paid occupations are veterans, police, and government officials.
My host family does not allow me to do household chores--only to keep my room clean. Timorese people are very hospitable to their guests. I try help out by carrying groceries and setting up for family gatherings.
My host dad is a veteran, and my host mother is a housewife.
