Small Ships and Environmental Sustainability

Introduction:

Wind Surf is a small ship compared to most cruise ships. Being small has its advantages! Wind Surf can visit ports that other ships can't, especially when it comes to smaller, more environmentally-sensitive islands.

The ship and its crew take special precautions to maintain a small footprint during their visits to places like Dominica and Montserrat. Our goal is to preserve these extraordinary places for many generations to come. So, how exactly is small-ship travel compatible with eco-focused islands? How does where we explore impact how we explore? Let's learn more!

What makes this environment special or different?:

Dominica and Monserrat are both volcanic islands. They are known more for interesting geological features, such as volcanos, hot springs, and dramatic peaks, than beaches. As a result, both islands have developed at a slower pace than some of their neighbors. In the case of Dominica, it's one of the least-visited islands in the Caribbean.

On Dominica, there are mountains, rainforests, a boiling lake (!), waterfalls and more. These natural features make Dominica an exciting and unique place to explore. Wind Surf's small size allows it to visit this special place. What else do we do to make sure that our visits to the island help support, instead of harm, Dominica's special environment?
