






In Nepal, liking spicy or sour flavors is seen as “girly.” He says that boys that like spicy and sour flavors are said to have been raised mostly by their mothers or hang out with their sisters a lot.
At school, Satwik speaks English. He says the teachers scold the students for speaking Nepali. “Hello” in Nepali is namaste or namaskar.
Satwik says the most common names are Aarush and Priyanshi. He told me there are at least ten boys named Aarush in the same grade, and several girls named Priyanshi.
Satwik studies English, Nepali, Science, and Math in school. His favorite subject is Health, Population, and Creative Arts (HPCA), an elective class.
Satwik said his homework is “very annoying and very long.” I often see him doing homework out of his textbooks for class. This includes English grammar practice, memorizing information about computer science and studying world history.
Satwik likes to play basketball after school. When he gets home, he’s usually playing video games like GTA 5, Minecraft and Roblox on his laptop.
