In my community, the main tribal language is Twi (pronounced Ti-wee), but people also speak English. However, it's a lot easier for them to understand Twi so I have to make sure I try to learn as much Twi as possible. There are over 80 languages spoken in Ghana, but only 11 of these languages are taught in schools around the country.
In Ghana, the currency is the Ghanaian Cedi (pronounced see-dee). Currently, 1 U.S. Dollar equals almost 11 Cedis. The bills come in amounts of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200, as well as coins called pesewas. There are 1 and 2 Cedi coins, as well as coins less than 1 Cedi.
A bottle of water costs 4-5 Cedi and when you're traveling around the country, there are often women selling water in bins on their heads at major intersections! You can also buy water sachets which are 2 cups of water in a pouch, and you can get 1-3 for 1 cedi depending on where you are.
