A Day Full of Day Lilies

Introduction:

Taiwan has so much natural beauty, including beautiful beaches, mountains, forests and exotic animals, so it is easy to learn about nature while you're here. I got the chance to visit a place called 六十石山 (Liu Shi Shi Shan), or "Sixty Stone Mountain," to explore one of Taiwan's most spectacular natural beauties: the blooming day lily flower. Every year around September, these flowers bloom all over Sixty Stone Mountain, completely covering it in a beautiful bright orange coat. These flowers not only look beautiful, but you can eat them, too! Since this land is protected, only certain people are allowed to harvest the flowers. When they do harvest them, they make several different kinds of foods and drinks from them. When you're on the mountain, you can try fried day lilies, day lily popsicles, and even day lily-flavored coffee. The flowers only bloom for about one day (which is why they are called day lilies) and are gone altogether by the end of the month. They are definitely a sight to see as well as a food to taste in Taiwan!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The day lily flower is bright orange with some red color on the petals. They open up to have long stem-like structures coming from the center, and they grow to be about as tall as a person's waist.
