Planes, Trains, and Scooters

Introduction:

Depending on how far someone wants to go or whether someone lives in a small town or city, there are several different forms of transportation that people in Taiwan use every day. For people living in a big city, it is common to take public transportation, such as a subway or bus. For people who live in a small town like me, it is much more common to drive a car or take a train to a neighboring town. If people want to get to one of the many small islands off the coast of Taiwan, they can take a boat or plane. However, no matter where you are in Taiwan, you can always find someone driving a scooter. This is the most widely used form of transportation and it's also how I get almost everywhere I go!

How do people get around?:

Many people in Taiwan drive scooters. A scooter is similar to a motorcycle in the United States, but it is smaller and doesn't go as fast. Scooters come in all different colors and shapes, and many people even have a colorful helmet with a design or character on it. People in Taiwan like to drive scooters because they're small, easy to drive and cheaper to have than a car.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I drive a scooter to school every day. Driving a scooter is very different than driving a car because there is nothing between you and the outdoors, so it can get very windy!
