India is a huge country! It is about one-third (1/3) of the size of the United States. Just like the U.S., India has a large variety of weather conditions, environments and natural resources. Different parts of the country vary in all these things. Beacuse of these differences, no two places in India are the same!
India is special because it has many different types of environments like desert, tropical forest, mountains, coastland and more! These different environments mean India has many kinds of natural resources. Wood and spices are natural resources collected in forests. Wood is used to make buildings and furniture. Spices are used for cooking. Since India has an ocean on three sides of the country, fish is another important natural resource. India also has resources like coal and oil. These are used to power cars and make most of the country’s electricity.
Since India has many different environments, people in various parts of the country live in many different ways. The type of environment a person lives in can determine the type of job they do. Someone living along the coast of India might be a fisherman. Someone living in eastern India near a coal field might be a coal miner.
