Khmer, French, English, and Chinese are the most prominent languages in Cambodia. Khmer is the native language of Cambodia, English and French are common due to the history of colonization in the country and catering to tourists, and Chinese is due to the increasing amount of people from China moving to the country. In large cities, like Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, most people can speak up to four different languages!
Cambodian riel and U.S. dollars are used here. USD is the main currency, and riel is used as a replacement for "cents." 4,000 riel = one U.S. dollar. So when someone asks for 10,000 riel, they're talking about $2.50.
A bottle of water here can cost anywhere from $0.50 to $3.00 depending on where you shop. Most large bottles at regular shops are about $1.00. However, you can also get a gallon jug of water for $1! You just have to know where to go for the best deals.
The best meal I had this week was always our lunch meal. We ate the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Lunch was always an omelet with tomatoes and onion, two pieces of toast, cheese spread, and coffee with condensed milk (yum!). Lunch was always Tom Yum soup, fried rice, white rice, an omelet and other vegetables.
